Rev. Wright is Wrong - Obama

It took him a while, but U.S. presidential hopefull Barak Obama has finaly made our "Winner of the Day!"

Democratic US presidential hopeful Barack Obama has expressed "outrage" yesterday at comments made by Rev Jeremiah Wright. He said that any relationship he had with his former pastor "has now changed" as a result of the comments.

Mr. Obama was responding to a series of recent public appearances by Rev Wright, in which the pastor refused to back down from the controversial statements made in his sermons.

In two recent speeches, to journalists and African-American activists, Mr Wright has attempted to hit back at his critics, saying that attacks on him were attacks on the black church and that his six years of service in the military was proof of his patriotism.

In his comments on Tuesday, Mr Obama said: "I believe that they do not portray accurately the perspective of the black Church.

They certainly don't portray accurately my values and beliefs."

"I am outraged by the comments that were made and saddened by the spectacle that we saw yesterday," Mr Obama told reporters.

The Illinois senator described Rev Wright's comments as "divisive and destructive" and said they "end up giving comfort to those that prey on hate".
Reverend Wright initially stayed silent when footage of old sermons containing politically-charged remarks were first circulated on television and online in March, but now that he has briefly held the spotlight it seems to have affected his rhetoric and his comments are getting more radical.

(In one clip, from a sermon delivered after the attacks of 11 September 2001, Mr Wright suggested that the US had brought the attacks on itself through its own foreign policy. And in a passage from a 2003 sermon, he said black Americans should condemn the US because of continuing racial injustice, saying: "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human.")

"The person I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago... Whatever relationship I had with Reverend Wright has changed as a consequence of this," Obama said.

I feel bad for Obama. This man may have cost him the election. My feelings aside for who I choose to vote for. I think this man has really caused a lot of friction for Obama.

Each person tends to do what they feel is best for themselves. One can understand Wright's feeling let down or even betrayed when a man whom he felt he had mentored, rejected his public statements.

The whole thing is a false issue anyway. We can't meaningfully judge any of the main parties on the basis of this.

It seems to me that it is the duty of ministers and leaders of the "Black Church" to speak out either in defense of the Reverend Write's definitions of their theology and practice or to refute it. Christians are vocal in condemning Muslem clergy for hot speaking against their radical brothers. Why do we not demand the same from ourselves

I agree that this is an unfortunate situation, especially since so many people are still unable (or more likely unwilling) to separate the two men. Hopefully, there are more intelligent and fair-minded Americans than there are 'unwilling and unable', and this will not hurt Barack Obama.

I second Sandy's comment. Like anything hyped in the media spotlight, too much emphasis is put on one small thing when we have huge crises in this country - healthcare, education, foreign policy, jobs and the economy, immigration, security, etc. etc. etc. I'm sick and tired of this cropping up again and again. I totally agree with Obama that we need to focus on the huge problems and solutions, not these "titillating" media frenzies.

Please, America....stop focussing on the nonsense...and start focussing on the real issues...things that will affect the future generation so this country, including your own children. What Rev. Wright says does NOT affect whether or not my kids will have an America in the future....what the next president does WILL. Please, please, please...do not continue to support the insanity of the media....it's embarrasing to watch.

LMAO. The chickens, the chickens, they have come home. And now Obama can't stop the fecal matter from hitting the air movement device.
Obammy made his bed and now he has to lie in it. Maybe Ayers or Farrakhan will give a speech for him next.

Glad I'm able to separate the issues from the NON-issues. Hope many others can see threw the media-manipulation-ratings-sensationalistic-tabloid-tv-mechanism.
