ASSHOLES OF THE WEEK!

I was only going to give this to Hamas, but what the hell, Fatah desrves some of the credit as well.

Otherwise this would be one more thing to fight about!

(These are actual Middle-East political cartoons!)
The TV announcer says: "the bulletin that reached us states that the Palestinians will attempt to liberate Palestine from the Palestinian occupation!" Meanwhile;
The newspaper headlines say: "The Internal Palestinian Conflict!"
And these idiots don't realize the Israeli's are laughing their asses off!

Peace in our time? Don't bet on it!

Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh (pictured here - mean looking son-of-a-bitch, ain't he!) told thousands of Iranians on Friday that his Hamas-led government will never recognize Israel and will continue to fight for the "liberation of Jerusalem."

The United States is pressing the Palestinian government to not only recognize Israel, but to renounce violence and form a national unity government with the moderate Fatah party.

Haniveh has his own agenda and said; "I'm insisting from this podium that these issues won't materialize. We will never recognize the usurper Zionist government and will continue our jihad-like movement until we achieve the liberation of Jerusalem."

Meanwhile, Ahmed Abdel Rahman, an adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of the Fatah party, said if Hamas wants to be part of a national unity government, it will need to abide by agreements the PLO has signed in the past. This would imply recognition of Israel.
"I can't criticize him (Haniyeh) when he is talking in the name of Hamas. But if he is speaking as prime minister, he should abide by the national agenda," Abdel Rahman said.

After all it said and done, the only thing that really matters in this situation is how badly anyone wants peace in the region. On those grounds, things don’t look too good!

The other shoe!!!!

With the ongoing controversy over remarks made by the Pope, some of the reasons for his observations are becoming more evident.

Barbara Amiel wrote an interesting article in Canada’s MacLean’s magazine over the weekend and I find her remarks are dead on target.

She talks about how Christianity is now a mild creed that was tamed over the last millennium by European Civilization, starting with two centuries of the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, European enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution.

Unfortunately, while Christianity has reconciled itself with reason, Islam continues to be a Medieval system that hasn’t. To quote Ms. Amiel:

Christianity was displaced as a political force by the secular state. Exit the sword-wavers attempting to create Christian theocracies or massive conversions.

Today the Pope runs the Catholics and the Lutherans and Anglicans have their head honchos as well.

This is not the case with Islam where self-appointed - so called - clerics can set up shop at the local mosque and start to disseminate wisdom, both spiritual and secular, in any manner they choose.

Islam’s jihadists celebrate when their actions send shivers up the spines of the Western moral elite. As an example Berlin's opera performance of Idomeneo was cancelled last week because it was considered too great a security risk for depicting a scene showing the decapitated head of the Prophet Muhammad, along with the heads of Christ, Buddha and Poseidon.

(By the way, NO Christians, Buddhists or Greeks were making similar threats!)

The Pope dropped the first shoe in a message to Islam that there finally appears to be someone in Christendom who isn’t resigned to Christians being harassed, imprisoned, tortured and even executed in Islamic countries simply for their beliefs.

This Pope has his eye on the beleaguered part of his flock that is living under Islamofascism. No one else seems to care a whit about them!

The United Nations certainly doesn’t give a fig about Christians. (Now I would have said they don’t give a flying fuck, but these are gentle Barbara’s words and not mine!) It is too heavily influenced by third world countries and the Muslim vote.

Its special relationship with human rights groups in occupied Palestinian territories makes it a whiz at stoking up anti-Israel resolutions and their record on freedom of religion is even more dismal.

The list of anti-Christian societies is lengthy. Christians have had their homes attacked or are jailed in Muslim countries across the globe from Indonesia to northern Nigeria, but no General Assembly debates on the matter!

While it’s common knowledge that it’s dangerous to publicly practice Christianity or convert from Islam virtually anywhere in the Middle East except Israel, concerned Muslim intellectuals worry about Islam’s refusal to reconsider the Quran in light of modernity.

However, they are the moderates, and by definition at the movement’s centre, not the steering edge. Instead, direction comes from the far-out rudder.

The extremists steer the Muslim ship and will continue to do so until it rights itself, sinks, or is righted by outside forces!

The Pope has already met with Muslim representatives to attempt a dialogue. The sad part is that such language lessons usually go one way.

Islam is unlikely to learn to talk like the Pope, but the Pope may yet learn to talk like an Ayatollah.

When he does, the other shoe will no doubt fall!

On a serious note! PLEASE READ THIS!

Ran across this article by Daniel Gordis that I would like to share;

This is not about the “occupation.” This is not about creating a Palestinian State. This is about whether there will be a state called Israel. Sixty years after Arab nations greeted the UN resolution on November 29 1947 with a declaration of war, nothing much has changed. They attacked this time for the same reason that they did sixty years ago.

At first, it was the Egyptians, Jordanians and Syrians. We put a stop
to that in 1949, 1956, 1967 and 1973.

Then it was the Palestinians, who bamboozled the world (and many of us Israelis) into believing that they just wanted a State, and that their terror was simply a way of forcing us to make one possible. We fought the terror in 1982 (Lebanon), 1987 (Intifada) and even after Camp David and Oslo, once again in 2000-2005 (the Terror War). And then, we actually tried to make the State happen. We got out of Lebanon to put an end to that conflict. And even more momentous, we got out of Gaza, hoping that they’d start to build something.

And now, it’s Hezbollah. Or more accurately, Syria. Or to be more precise, Iran. What’s Iran’s beef with Israel? Territory it lost? It didn’t lose any. Anddoes anyone really believe that Iran cares one whit about the Palestinians and their state? That’s not the reason. We know it, and so do they.

Now, the bitter reality of which Israel’s right wing had warned about all along is beginning to settle in. It is not lost on virtually any Israelis that the two primary fronts on which this war is being conducted are precisely the two fronts from which we withdrew to internationally recognized borders.

We withdrew from Gaza, despite all the internal objections, hoping to move Palestinian statehood—and peace—one step closer. But all we got in return was the election of Hamas, and a barrage of more than 800 Qassams that they refused to end.

And then they stole Gilad Shalit. Not from Gaza. Not from some contested no man’s land. From inside the internationally recognized borders of Israel. As if to make sure that we got the point—“There is no place that you’re safe. There is no place to which we won’t take this war. You can’t stay here.”

Because as much as we have wanted to believe otherwise, they have no interest in building their homeland. They only care about destroying ours.

Six years ago we pulled out of Lebanon. Same story. In defiance of the UN’s resolution 1559, Hizbollah armed itself to the teeth, and as we watched and did nothing, accumulated more than 10,000 rockets. And dug itself into the mountains. And established itself in Beirut, effectively using the entire Lebanese population as human shields. And, assuming that there was little that we could or would do, it attacked on June 12, killing eight soldiers, and stealing Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev. Not from Southern Lebanon. Not from Har Dov, a tiny hilltop that’s still contested. But from inside Israel. Inside a line that no one contests.

Unless, of course, they contest the idea of the whole enterprise. (Israel) Which they do. And which is precisely the point.
