Pakistan getting "Interesting!"

I have stated several times on this blog that I didn't see anything wrong with Islam that a good old reformation just like the one that Christianity and Judaism are going through would cure.

This would immediately bring the religion out of the twelfth century and into the twenty first. (At least, the Islam that is being preached by a lot of Imam's)

What I did and continue to say is that we have a MAJOR problem with the Imam's around the world who are in the same boat as the Christian honcho's (Vatican) were back in the "dark ages!"

(An Imam has about the same say in Islam as the Vatican in Christianity even though they will deny it.)

That is, they are fighting tooth and nail to keep their stranglehold on the faithfull. They are also running scared and starting to lash out in irrational fury at those around them that threaten their power base.

A FANATICAL Pakistani cleric told The Sun yesterday of his chilling dream to turn the world Muslim – by force if necessary.

Qari Hifzur Rehamn, 60, spoke openly of imposing Islamic law’s stoning and beheading on Britain – as Pakistan was rocked by unrest over the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

He warned: “We want Islamic law for all Pakistan and then the world.

“We would like to do this by preaching. But if not then we would use force.”

Rehamn, 60, spoke in the Pakistani town of Kahuta as the call to prayer echoed over the dusty streets.

He is Imam of the town’s fundamentalist religious school or madrassa, where classes for kids as young as nine include Jihad or Holy War and barbaric punishments. (Get em while they're young - ED.)

His teachings are frightening enough. But his mosque lies in the shadow of the secret bunker where Pakistan produces nuclear weapons.

And when asked if it would be right to nuke British infidels, he laughed and answered: “Probably.”

Rehamn, in a flowing grey beard and turban, explained Islamic, or Sharia Law as we sat surrounded by some of his 250 students.

He said: “Adulterers who are married should be buried in earth to the waist and stoned to death.

“Homosexuals must be killed – it’s the only way to stop them spreading. It should be by beheading or stoning, which the general public can do.

“Thieves should have their hands cut off. Women should remain indoors and films and pop music should be banned.”

So what does he think of Britain? He insisted: “The nonbelievers must be converted to Islam. Morals in your society, with women wearing revealing clothes, have gone wrong.”

We might sometimes think it better to just cut ties with these Islamic countries and say "The Hell with them," but it is no longer that easy.

Not only do we have attitudes such as those just described above, but situations such as this below to compound the threat.

The spot where enriched uranium is produced for Pakistan’s 80 to 120 nuclear warheads is behind razor wire less than five miles from where we spoke.

A dummy missile even sits in a children’s playground in Kahuta.

Only this month, doomed opposition leader Benazir Bhutto raised the spectre of al-Qaeda-linked Islamic militants seizing control of Pakistan’s nuclear warheads – and activity by radicals near Kahuta.

Despite the efforts of politicians such as her to champion democracy, the country has long been a hotbed of Islamic extremism and there is no shortage of potential martyrs.

At the Red Mosque in the heart of the capital Islamabad, Maulana Mohavya Irshad, 24, stared coldly at me. He said: “I’m ready to become a suicide bomber and lay down my life for Islam. Democracy is wrong. Earth belongs to God and God’s law must be implemented.

“I hope Britain and the rest of the world will have Sharia Law this century. We will continue to sacrifice our lives to achieve this.”

Meanwhile, the al-Qaeda warlord accused of masterminding the death of Ms Bhutto, 54, has warned his 13,000-strong private army will fight to the death against any troops sent to seize him.

Long-bearded Baitullah Mehsud, holed up in the bandit country of South Waziristan on the Afghan border, denied being behind Bhutto’s murder last Thursday in a suicide bomb attack in Rawalpindi.

But his cousin Shehryar Mehsud, 34, told The Sun: “Baitullah and the rest of us will fight to the last man.

Our army of thousands of Muslim brothers is ready for Jihad against the infidels and against the infidel government in Pakistan.

“UK and America are the enemy number one of Islam. We have joined the Taliban troops fighting in Afghanistan and will continue Jihad until we liberate the country.”

The Pakistani government claims a phone-tap caught Mehsud, 34, and a cleric gloating over Bhutto’s death, calling it “spectacular”.

His cousin insisted: “Baitullah Mehsud is not involved in the killing of Western ally Benazir Bhutto.

“We did not kill her but she was against Islam and Islamic teachings.”

Another of his clan, Mohamad Ali Mehsud, 26, bragged to The Sun about Mehsud striking from his lair in Pakistan against British and US forces in Afghanistan.

Mohamad said: “Baitullah is cunning. He moves positions all the time and uses disguises. Many times he has survived by a whisker.

“His men cross into Afghanistan, fight infidel soldiers and steal laptops, mobile phones and money. They bribe the soldiers guarding the border to get back into Pakistan.”

But did Mehsud kill Bhutto? Mohamad said: “Baitullah didn’t like Bhutto’s lipstick and Western ways. But he didn’t kill her. He only kills men.”

Aqsa and Benazir, not so different at all.

Now that my article about Benazir Bhutto has been up for a few hours and I have had a chance to read the replies to it, be they good, bad, weird, stupid, hate full or just plain ignorant, I would like to make a point.

The way this article was written has a lot in common with the piece about Aqsa Pervez who refused to wear her Hijab when she was out in public.

There is a great similarity between the story of a teenage girl who didn't want to wear a Hijab and was killed for it, and the fictional account of Benazir Bhutto being killed for refusing to take hers off.

The Hijab is not the reason for these killings and is only one of the links to these two events. They are but a symbol of the real problem, and that is one of other people trying to impose a set of beliefs or morals or practises on someone else.

Impose their values when they have no legal or moral right to do so!

The story about Aqsa Pervez is not a story of the Hijab or of religion, but rather a story about a domineering, controlling, vain and cruel father attempting to bend a daughter to his will, and when that failed, to resort to violence to achieve his objective.

The same can be said of Ms. Bhutto's case with the fictional Hijab. Benazir Bhutto was killed by people who could not achieve their political objectives by any other means and so used religion as an excuse to put an end to what they considered to be a threat from her.

In either case it was a means to an end that happens when individuals start to think they have a right to dictate the morals, beliefs and practices of other people.

It is one of the worst failings of Humanity when people believe they have the duty to subject others to their way of thinking.

Especially when they use God as a justification.

Benazir Bhutto Killed for Refusing to Take Off Veil!

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan - In a dramatic move that has stunned and confused nearly everyone in the Middle-East, Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated Thursday.

It was a suicide bombing that also killed at least 20 others at a campaign rally, a party aide and a military official said.

An official of a little known fringe group, The Allah Shmalla Party, commented that their platform of a totally Secular State was the only sure means of doing away with the sectarian violence so prevalent in the region. Part of their doctrine is the abolition of all religious beliefs, artifacts and icons in political parties because this would only inflame hatred amongst adherents with different views.

In light of this Ms. Bhutto was asked repeatedly to remove her Hijab since she was running as an elected representative of the countries government, but she always refused on religious grounds.

A senior official of Shmalla said Ms. Bhutto could not use her religious beliefs in an attempt to thwart political policy and the State was eventually forced to make an example of her.

"At 6:16 p.m. she expired," said Wasif Ali Khan, a member of Bhutto's party who was at Rawalpindi General Hospital where she was taken after the attack.

A senior military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment, confirmed that Bhutto had died.

Silence is NOT Golden!

We have some friends who go south for the winter every year!

With the increased security concerns here in North America, it got to the point where when she had to go to her local Member of Parliament to have her signature confirmed on her passport renewal application.

(She is of Middle-Eastern descent and the passport office said that her signature didn't match and they wanted to check her out in person.)

Now it is possible that the signature was a little different for whatever reason, but personally, I believe it was profiling on account of her Middle-Eastern background.

This brings me to the point of this little rant.

People who are perceived to be Muslim here in North America have one hell of a "public relations" problem!

Ethnic profiling is a fact of life here, no matter how much you agree or disagree with it.

It's something that will have to be lived with because it is the Muslim's themselves who are to blame for it. And not in the way you think!

Yes, there is a small group who are extremists, and others who follow old customs and practices that in North America and Europe were abandoned centuries ago, but they are not the main problem.

The problem is that the great "silent majority" of decent, law abiding Muslims have not risen up in anger over incidents like 9/11 and condemned these acts of barbarism with a loud and unified voice.

Instead we get answers from the Islamic community like; "I bet the Jews were behind it!" or "They, (the terrorists) don't represent what Islam is really like!"

Silence is not the answer to the problem that Islam is fostering in the Western World!

A few weeks ago we had an article from Ms. Irshad Manji on this site (Salman Rushdie is not the problem, Muslims are!) where she stated;

I am offended that every year, there are more women killed in Pakistan for allegedly violating their family’s honour than there are detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

Muslims have rightly denounced the mistreatment of Guantanamo prisoners. But where is our outrage over the murder of many more Muslims at the hands of our own?

I am offended that in April, mullahs at an extreme mosque in Pakistan issued a fatwa against hugging.

(The country’s female tourism minister had embraced – or, depending on the account you follow, accepted a congratulatory pat from – her skydiving instructor after she successfully jumped in a French fundraiser for the victims of the 2005 Pakistan earthquake.)

Clerics announced her act of touching another man to be “a great sin.” They demanded she be fired.

I am offended by their fatwa proclaiming that women should stay at home and remain covered at all times.

I am offended that they have bullied music store owners and video vendors into closing shop.

I am offended that the government tiptoes around their craziness because these clerics threaten suicide attacks if confronted.

I am offended that on Sunday, at least 35 Muslims in Kabul were blown to bits by other Muslims and on Tuesday, 87 more in Baghdad by Islamic “insurgents”, with no official statement from Pakistan to deplore these assaults on fellow believers.

I am offended that amid the internecine carnage, a professed atheist named Salman Rushdie tops the to-do list.

Above all, I am offended that so many other Muslims are not offended enough to demonstrate widely against God’s self-appointed ambassadors.

We complain to the world that Islam is being exploited by fundamentalists, yet when reckoning with the opportunity to resist their clamour en masse, we fall curiously silent.

In a battle between flaming fundamentalists and mute moderates, who do you think is going to win?

I am not saying that standing up to intimidation is easy.

This past spring, the Muslim world made it that much more difficult.

A 56-member council of Islamic countries pushed the UN Human Rights Council to adopt a resolution against the “defamation of religion”. Pakistan led the charge.

Focused on Islam rather than on faith in general, the resolution allows repressive regimes to squelch freedom of conscience further – and to do so in the guise of international law.

On occasion, though, the people of Pakistan show that they do not have to be muzzled by clerics and politicians.

Last year, civil society groups vocally challenged a set of anti-female laws, three decades old and supposedly based on the Quran.

Their religiously respectful approach prompted even mullahs to hint that these laws are man-made, not God-given.

This month, too, Pakistanis forced their government to lift restrictions on the press.

No wonder my own book, translated into Urdu and posted on my website, is being downloaded in droves.

Religious authorities will not let it be sold in the markets. But they cannot stop Pakistanis – or other Muslims – from satiating a genuine hunger for ideas.

In that spirit, it is high time to “ban” hypocrisy under the banner of Islam.

Salman Rushdie is not the problem. Muslims are!

Irshad has pretty well hit the nail on the head with her statements.

Silence is not Golden and complacency is not the answer!

Salman Rushdie is not the problem. Muslims are!

Growing up in Vancouver, I attended an Islamic school every Saturday.

There, I learned that Jews cannot be trusted because they worship “moolah, not Allah,” meaning money, not God.

According to my teacher, every last Jew is consumed with business.

But looking around my neighbourhood, I noticed that most of the new business signs featured Asian languages: Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Punjabi and plenty of Urdu. Not Hebrew. Urdu, which is spoken throughout Pakistan.

That reality check made me ask: What if my religious school is not educating me? What if it is indoctrinating me?

I am reminded of this question thanks to the news that Salman Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses and ten other works of fiction, will be knighted by the Queen of England.

On Monday, Pakistan’s religious affairs minister said that in light of how Rushdie has blasphemed Islam with provocative literature, it is understandable why angry Muslims would commit suicide bombings over his knighthood.

Members of Parliament, as well as the Pakistani government, amplified the condemnation of Britain, feeding cries of offense to Muslim sensibilities from Europe to Asia.

As a Muslim, you better believe I am offended – by these absurd reactions.

I am offended that it is not the first time honours from the West have met with vitriol and violence.

In 1979, Pakistani physicist Abdus Salam became the first Muslim to win the Nobel Prize in science. He began his acceptance speech with a verse from the Quran.

Salam’s country ought to have celebrated him.

Instead, rioters tried to prevent him from re-entering the country. Parliament even declared him a “non-Muslim” because he belonged to a religious minority.

His name continues to be controversial, invoked by state authorities in hushed tones.

After all, the very first bounty on Rushdie's head was worth £1 million. It increased to £1.25 million; then higher.

The chief benefactor, Iran's government, claimed to have profitably invested the principal. Hence the rising value of the reward.

Looks like Jews are not the only people handy at business.

He thought it was safe to go in the water again!

Just when Salman Rushdie thought it was safe to go in the water again, an International row over his Knighthood this past weekend escalated after Islamic extremists placed a £80,000 bounty on the writer’s head.

The British Government expressed its “deep concern” over reported comments by one of Pakistan’s ministers which suggested Rushdie’s knighthood could justify suicide attacks.

The announcement comes amid continuing protests in Pakistan over the awarding of the honour to the controversial author.

Earlier in the day Pakistan’s government summoned Britain’s high commissioner in Islamabad for talks on the escalating row.

Salman Rushdie with his wife Padma. Rushdie was awarded an OBE this weekend, but Pakistan has demanded it be withdrawn.

To show you how much anti-Muslim sentiment is prevalent in England, one of the countries top newspapers wrote this article;

What Muslims Should Be Outraged Over:

Throughout its history, Islam has been a religion of hatred.

Spread by the sword, Islam means ’submission,’ and submission is what Muslims demand — submission to a religion whose followers maim, kill, commit acts of terrorism and threaten harm whenever they feel slighted.

When will we see Muslims take to the streets to protest the despicable acts of Muslim terrorists?

Our view: Europeans - and indeed free people everywhere - should stand up against the Islamic oppression.

Europe is not Islamic, and Europe should not sacrifice its culture to a people who - in the name of Islam - use any and every opportunity to stage violent protests, issue death threaths, destroy property, murder, and commit other acts of terrorism.
