Saturday Morning Confusion. # 51

Mountie to be disciplined for using Taser on double-parked senior!

With all the uproar over the use of Tasers by cops, especially in British Columbia, I am really, really confused as to why they don't seem to get the message........ Oh wait, I forgot, they are above the law and don't care, one way or the other, on what the public thinks!

An RCMP officer in Kelowna, B.C., will be disciplined for using a Taser stun gun on a 68-year-old stroke victim over a parking violation.

Supt. Bill McKinnon said the incident grew out of a simple traffic stop that escalated when John Peters drove away.
John Peters admitted he first drove away when a police officer tried to give him a ticket for double parking. When the RCMP approached his car for the second time the officer had his taser drawn, ready to use.

Peters, 68, says he raised his arm to try to protect himself before an RCMP officer shot him with the Taser.

The officer stunned him with the Taser once while he was still in his car, and again when he got out, Peters said.

McKinnon said a stun gun should never be used when someone is seated in a car and the officer has been suspended from using the Taser. He will likely receive a written reprimand on his record, McKinnon said.
"We have determined the use of a conducted energy weapon while Mr. Peters remained seated in the driver's seat of his vehicle was indeed inappropriate," McKinnon said.
Peters told the "Perspective" investigative team that the RCMP apologized to him on Thursday before issuing the public statement.

"We in turn regret this particular action, and have apologized to Mr. Peters over this tactical error in judgment. I have ordered a Code of Conduct investigation in order to address the issue," said McKinnon.
However, the second use of the Taser on Peters, after he got out of the vehicle, was justified because Peters was combative and resisting arrest, McKinnon said.

HOLD ON A MINUTE KIDS, The cop tasered this old guy while he was sitting unarmed in his car, and then a second time because he got combative over being tasered the first time????

For this he gets a reprimand?????

That cop should be charged with "aggravated assualt" or "assualt with a weapon" ...... but we all know that's not going to happen, don't we!

Woman jailed for attack on man's testicles!

A woman who ripped off her ex-boyfriend's testicle with her bare hands has been sent to prison.

Amanda Monti, 24, flew into a rage when Geoffrey Jones, 37, rejected her advances at the end of a house party, Liverpool Crown Court heard.

She pulled off his left testicle and then a friend handed it back to Mr. Jones saying: Here, this is yours!

(Don't date this woman!)

Monti admitted to wounding and was jailed for two-and-a-half years.

What's the matter with kids these days?

My dad was the generation that fought in WW11 and raised us "baby boomers" to be such spoiled brats that we now screw up the generations that came after us!

Dad's generation was the one that said; "Children should be seen and not heard." and "Respect your elders!"

Since his time we have been through the boomers, gen X, gen Y, and God knows what else.

The only thing for sure is that values and conduct have changed considerably over the years, and not always for the better.

First there was the feminist movement which in my opinion actually hurt the cause of women more than it helped.

(Why did women want to lower themselves to the status of equal?)

Yes I know it did wonders for pay equity and the "glass ceiling" but there were also some extremely negative and damaging aspects to this movement.

We also had a revolution in the way kids were raised and this has been mostly for the worse as time went on.

Where respect for adults was expected from kids before the swinging sixties, it is now almost a joke for a kid to show any sort of deference to someone older.

Where the norm used to be a whack on the backside for bad behaviour, it has now developed into a disdain for adults and any attempt at punishment is met with the wail of "I'll call the cops" or "I'll phone children's aid!"

Toady's youth has a sense of entitlement that was unheard of a few short years ago. They think nothing of doing exactly what they want and to hell with the consequences.

(I see this in my own son who was brought up by an overly permissive mother and as a result thinks the world "owes" him something.)

The "coup de grace" to any respect for other people came today when one of the pre-teens that hang around in the woods and river behind my place caused a stir that made the local T.V. news.

Dozens of kids from the low-rentals across the road troop through the condo property where I live to get to their "fort" and play areas along the Thames river behind me.

The property management is always trying to put the run to them because they not only trespass but leave garbage all over the place.

(On a side note, I had a patio set outside my unit but had to sell it because the kids kept stealing the chairs and dragging them down to the river so they would have something to sit on.)

Anyways, to make a long story shorter, the super of this building caught some kids doing their usual thing and he held one 11 year old girl by the arm and lectured her about trespassing and leaving garbage everywhere and then kicked the bunch of them out.

The next thing you know there are loads of cops running around looking for a "pervert" who tried to abduct an 11 year old girl!!

This caused such a stink that it made the local T.V. news that night and it wasn't till the next day that things were straightened out and the cops had to issue a statement that; "Things don't always happen the way they are reported!"

Fortunately for Jim (The super) the cops got to the bottom of it, but I shudder to think of the times innocent people have been persecuted and prosecuted for something that was just a vindictive "get even" from one of these spoiled rotten brats.

(That also brings us to the question of how many men have been arrested and charged with "rape" or "sexual assault" just because a woman, for whatever reason, says so!)

The mere statement, minus any facts or corroborating evidence, is enough now-a-days to convict and damn.

Labrador policewoman cops to abuse!

Police in Labrador have apologized to a woman who was held naked in a lockup for two days last winter, and have disciplined an officer for mistreating her.

An internal RCMP report has found that police did not follow procedure in a case involving Carol Ikkusek, 26, who was kept naked in a small lockup cell that had no mattress.

Ikkusek, an Innu resident of Nain on Labrador's northern coast, was brought into custody in Happy Valley-Goose Bay last February, and was waiting for a court appearance on charges of assaulting a police officer. (Now we know why they abused her!)

An internal RCMP report said Ikkusek threatened to use her clothing to harm herself, so Cpl. Edwina Tuttle intervened, taking Ikkusek to hospital for a medical assessment. A doctor there recommended that Ikkusek be admitted, however, the hospital's secure room was not available, so Tuttle took Ikkusek back to the lockup.

Ikkusek was stripped and left to sleep on a steel bench with no blanket. Ikkusek was given a blanket after 16 hours, but she remained naked for another day and a half. (Inside or not, we have to remember that this was winter in northern Labrador and global warming doesn't help much up there!)

Details of Ikkusek's treatment surfaced during sentencing.

Insp. Greg Bursey made an apology on Tuesday to Ikkusek, on behalf of the force's Labrador district. "I'm sorry she felt that she was mistreated in any way or put through any undue hardship, but certainly there was no intent," Bursey said. "I'm satisfied, within reason, that it shouldn't happen again."

Tuttle was disciplined for not following procedure. She still works with the RCMP in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Meanwhile, Boyd Rowe, chief executive officer of the regional health authority, says there's a need for more secure medical holding areas. "More and more, we are utilizing that particular secure room, and it has led us to give some thought to designating another space within the facility," Rowe said.

Nobody with the Ikkusek family could be reached to comment on the police report. (P.S. Even if they could reach them, they would be too afraid to file a complaint, let alone charge the cop with assaault!)
