Grand Canyon Store Selling Creationist Bullshit!!

There's an "official" book for sale at the Grand Canyon National Park claiming that the canyon was the result of Noah's Flood!

According to Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER), park superintendent Joe Alston in 2003 lobbied to keep the book, titled Grand Canyon: A Different View, by Tom Vail, out of the park's bookstores; the National Park Service responded by promising a "high-level policy review" of the matter. PEER claims that three years later, a Freedom of Information Act request shows that the review wasn't even "requested," let alone conducted or completed! This is what Noah's flood is supposed to have done 5000 years ago!

Grand Canyon: A Different View, by Tom Vail, is a controversial book that offers the Creationist explanation of the Grand Canyon's formation, namely God's world-convulsing judgment at the time of the Global Flood.

The presidents of seven leading scientific societies issued a joint letter to the National Parks Administration calling for the book's removal from National Park bookstores, claiming it to be "at odds with the well-documented scientific understanding of Earth history" and arguing that the book's presence violated the U.S. Constitution.

So far it has fallen on deaf ears, just a scientific "Evolution" has fallen on deaf right-wing Christian ears!

Nothing Surprises Me Anymore! 2006 Review!

Folks, we just get weirder and weirder and no one so much as blinks!
2006 might not go down as the most newsy year in history, but it sure had it's share of strange stuff!

An interactive exhibit at the Ontario College of Art and Design is allowed to serve pasteurized breast milk for taste-testing purposes - six flavours from six donor moms!

Immigration officials go to a grade school and threaten to take away two young sisters if their illegal immigrant parents don't turn themselves in within 30 minutes.

A man who was involved in an international steroid trafficking ring, and admitted to helping a friend burn and dispose of a murder victim's body, is reinstated as the swim coach at an Oakville athletic club!

A Toronto school principal is charged with two counts of assault after "allegedly" tossing shit at children! (Honest!)

A California man attempting to join his family in Burlington for Christmas is stopped by customs and charged with trying to smuggle child pronography into the country on his cell phone. It was a picture of his naked 4 month old son.

Given a choice between jail and exile to Canada, an American man convicted of having sex with a minor, (his under-age girlfriend) chose Fort Erie, Ontario.
(Fort Erie? He should have chosen jail!)

Over 150 of 800 delegates to the International AIDS Conference in Toronto stay behing after it's over and claim refugee status.

And finally;
Toronto paralegal Harry Kopyto was ejected from court after a Justice of the Peace complained his jacket clashed with his shirt and he was in breach of court decorum!
Tomorrow we will look at my fearless predictions for 2007!

This is Why I like Spirituality and Hate Religion!

More people in Britain think religion causes more harm than believe it does good, according to a Guardian/ICM poll published today.

It shows that an overwhelming majority see religion as a cause of division and tension - greatly outnumbering the smaller majority who also believe that it can be a force for good.

The poll also reveals that non-believers outnumber believers in Britain by almost two to one, about the opposite of what it is in the United States.

It paints a picture of a sceptical nation with massive doubts about the effect religion has on society: 82% of those questioned say they see religion as a cause of division and tension between people. Only 16% disagree.

The findings are at odds with attempts by some religious leaders to define the country as one made up of many faith communities.

Here's looking at you kid!

The city of London, England has more street cameras than any other place on earth. Big Brother is everywhere.

We now have "face recognition" technology installed in North America at major airports, intersections, malls and all sorts of other places where large numbers of people gather.

Bad news for any "wanted crooks" or "enemies of the state!"

If you think this is getting out of hand read on..............

Scanning license plates to identify delinquent parking violators.

San Francisco's Department of Parking and Traffic are testing a mounted camera that scans the license plates of parked cars and searches a database to identify vehicles with lots of unpaid tickets.

When a match is made, the parking ticket crew comes and puts boot locks on the car! Apparently the system can scan at least 250 plats an hour.

Somalia-1 vs Islamic Militants-0

Somalia's parliament will declare martial law on Saturday for a period of three months, said the country's prime minister.
Government and Ethiopian troops took control of the capital Mogadishu from Islamic militants yesterday.

"This country has experienced anarchy and in order to restore security we need a strong hand, especially with freelance militias," Ali Mohamed Gedi told reporters Thursday in Mundul Sharey, his home village, some 40 kilometres southwest of Mogadishu.

Gedi made the comments during his first visit to his village since 2002 and came hours after troops loyal to the interim government of Somalia, backed by members of the Ethiopian military, entered the outskirts of Mogadishu on Thursday in the wake of fleeing Islamic militants.

The Council of Islamic Courts, the Islamic insurgents who had controlled the city since June and planned to form a government based on the Qu'ran, withdrew from the city without a fight in anticipation of the troops' arrival.

Obsession and Radical Islam

We often hear that 9/11 was a wake-up call for Americans. But have Americans really woken up to the truth of how much radical Islamists want us dead, and the lengths to which they are willing to go to fulfill their mission?

According to a shocking Fox News documentary called Obsession, the free world is still unprepared to face the unwavering commitment of those who have pledged their lives to our destruction.

The film states that we suffer not so much from complacency, but from the naïve disbelief that we remain targets of thousands, perhaps millions of radical Muslims around the world.

The film takes the position that there is no middle ground for radical Islamists. “Obsession” is filled with fiery speeches, from the Middle East to the streets of London and New York, in which extremists offer a stark choice for the world: either convert to a Taliban-like form of Islam or face death.

This is not for debate or something we can negotiate out of.

Of course, the vast majority of the world’s 1.1 billion Muslims would never personally engage in terrorism. But what of those who do?

How do they develop and spread their message?

Without the support of Muslim leaders to direct the attention of Muslims to the lies and distortions of the Islamic Fascist propagandists, we stand little chance of winning the war against terror without a conflagration on the scale of a world war.

Maybe this video will help explain what we are up against;

Putin

It seems Putin's Russia has not changed that much since the time of Stalin after all.

It’s not all that easy to change a National Psyche once a certain mind-set and inertia has set in!

Not only was the State implicated in the murder of a newspaper reporter critical of the regime, but they are now trying to blame the murder of an ex-KGB spy on political rivals as well.

Here is a press release from the Russian Government;

A former oil tycoon's alleged role in the poisoning of an ex-KGB spy is under investigation, Russian authorities said on Wednesday.

Russia's prosecutor general's office has named Leonid Nevzlin as a suspect who could have ordered the murder of Alexander Litvinenko, the former Russian agent who died Nov. 23 from exposure to the radioactive substance polonium-210.

Nevzlin, living in Israel in self-imposed exile, was second-in-command to former billionaire oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

Khodorkovsky's much-publicized arrest was widely believed to have been motivated by the billionaire's political activism against the Kremlin.

Together the two partners owned the Yukos oil company, but Khodorkovsky was jailed in Siberia on trumped-up charges of fraud and tax evasion and Nevzlin fled the country.

Dec. 25th;
Reading about war on today of all days, one thought occured to me -- America should stay out of any war that Canada doesn't want to fight. Look at the record:

Canada won the war of 1812 with the U.S. (I see you've re-built the White House! It's very nice!)

Canada supported, and the U.S. and Allies won. - WWI, WWII, Korea, Gulf War, Kosovo, Afghanistan.

Canada didn't support - U.S. lost: Vietnam, Iraq.

Why We Rarely Hear from Moderate Muslims!

Jamal Miftah, a Muslim who lives in Tulsa, wrote a column for the newspaper Tulsa World, condemning Al Qaeda and calling on Muslims to reject terrorism.

In return, until he apologizes for his article, he was kicked out of the local mosque by leaders and threatened with violence by other members of the peaceful Islamic community of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Oh, while we are on the subject of "peaceful" versus "non-peaceful."

Leave the Bitch at Home!

Sir Paul McCartney had the family over for a big Christmas bash at his 200-acre estate in Peasmarsh, East Sussex, over the holidays.
His entire family, including Beatrice, the three-year-old daughter he had with Heather, were welcomed at the sit-down lunch.

Sir Paul, 64, arrived at his estate on Friday and Beatrice came along shortly after with her nanny. (Do you remember "When I'm 64?)

It was Sir Paul’s wish she should be surrounded by her presents on Christmas morning together with the rest of his family.

On Christmas Eve, Sir Paul’s son James and daughters Stella and Mary turned up with their partners and children. Even Sir Paul’s step-daughter, also called Heather, was there as was Sir Paul’s brother Mike and his family.

A security guard on the front-gate said: “It looks as if everyone except Heather (Mills) has been invited. “But it is hardly surprising she has been frozen out.”

Heather, 38, who has been angling for a divorce payment of up to £100million, was seen earlier in the week in the nearby town of Rye.

In Linda’s memory, everyone ate veggie nut roast.

In a related event Paul has taken possession of priceless paintings by Renoir and Picasso ahead of his bitter divorce battle with Heather, the Sun newspaper reported Friday.

It said Mills, 38, had been “left fuming” to find that the art treasures estimated at 10 million pounds (19 million dollars) had been removed from a formerly jointly-owned country estate.

Pope and Queen-1 vs Somalia-0

Queen Elizabeth delivered her annual Christmas message yesterday, calling for mutual respect between young and old and greater religious tolerance. She said; "It is very easy to concentrate on the differences between the religious faiths and to forget what they have in common. People of different faiths are bound together by the need to make this world a better place."

Pope Benedict, meanwhile, urged peacefull solutions to crises worldwide yesterday, singling out the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and violence in Africa in his annual Christmas day message.

At the same time violence continued to flare in Somalia as Ethiopia entered the war.

Somalia has had no effective national government since 1991, though there is an internationally recognized government in Baidoa. This government, called the Transitional National Government, controls only Baidoa and is not recognized by most Somalis to be legitimate.

The other half of the country, with the bulk of the population, is controlled by the Islamic Courts Union. (ICU)
They control the critically important cities of Mogadishu and, since September 24, 2006, Kismayo.
The Islamic Courts Union seeks to install Sharia law in Somalia.

Hassan Aweys, Leader;
Islamic Courts Union and The Somalia Dental Association

Social law changes, such as the prohibition against watching movies and soccer in public, have become recent movements by the ICU to change behaviors and impost strict social mores.

(On a side note here, this is the main beef I have with these religious assholes. If they don't want to watch movies or soccer, or listen to music, that's their business! But, where did they ever get the idea that they can tell you, or me, or my aunt Bertha, what we can or can't do!!!)

In December 2006, the Islamist Militia declared war on Ethiopia , and started to attack the Ethiopian forces - after which, large forces of the Ethiopian army entered into Somalia.

On Sunday, December 24, 2006, Ethiopian forces launched airstrikes against Islamist fighters across Somalia. Ethiopian Information Minister Berhan Hailu stated that targets included the town of Buur Hakaba, which is close to the administration's base in Baidoa.

This was the first use of airstrikes by Ethiopia and also it's first public admission of involvement in Somalia.

On Monday December 25, 2006 Ethopian Jet fighters bombed the International airport in Mogadishu.

(Not-so-covert C.I.A. involvement is suspected in the battle to oust the Islamists.)

Jesus or Christ? or just Jesus Christ!!

Since this is Christmas day and we are supposed to be celebrating the birth of Jesus, let's see what history really has to say about the birth of "Christ." (Even though the historical Jesus was probably born on April 6, 6-A.D. Christmas is actually a Pagan Festival and celebrates the Winter Solstice, which means that it is more of a cultural phenomenon than a religious one.)

Remember, this is not Jesus, but rather the Christ of myth!
