Boss is Smoking, Employees are Fuming!

It had to happen sooner or later kids! After years of being treated as pariahs for smoking, our puffing friends are finally getting a bit of revenge.

The owner of a small German computer company has fired three non-smoking workers because they were threatening to disturb the peace after they requested a smoke-free environment.

The manager of the 10-person I.T. company in Buesum, named Thomas J., told the Hamburger Morgenpost newspaper he had fired the trio because their non-smoking was causing disruptions.

Germany introduced non-smoking rules in pubs and restaurants on January 1, but Germans working in small offices are still allowed to smoke.

"I can't be bothered with trouble-makers," Thomas was quoted saying. "We're on the phone all the time and it's just easier to work while smoking. Everyone picks on smokers these days. It's time for revenge. I'm only going to hire smokers from now on." (So put that in your pipe and smoke it!)

Maybe it just seems that way!

We got this rather suspicious article from Hong Kong.

(Reuters) - A 107-year-old Hong Kong villager, who still enjoys an occasional smoke, has attributed his longevity in part to decades of sexual abstinence, a newspaper said on Sunday.

I don't know why I have lived this long, Chan Chi -- one of Hong Kong's oldest people -- was quoted as saying during an annual dinner for the city's elders. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I have lived a sex-less life for many years -- since I was 40, said Chan, a widower whose wife died during World War Two.

Chan, from Hong Kong's less built-up New Territories hinterland, was pictured looking sprightly and eating heartily at the banquet.

A former chef, he said a low-fat diet and regular dawn exercises had helped him fight off the ravages of old age.

But the centenarian, who's had no difficulty living a monastic existence for nearly 70 years, admits the pleasures of tobacco have been harder to resist.

"Now I want to quit," he was quoted as saying of his decades-long cigarette addiction.

"Maybe the government should ban cigarette sales so I can give it up," he added.

Meanwhile a study done on Mr. Chi by scientist from a Boston Medical Center said his actual age was closer to 80 and he just looked that old through a combination of heavy smoking and lack of sex!

Cough, Cough!

First of all Happy New Year!

I am in the middle of a prolonged "discussion" with my wife about the rights of smokers and non-smokers. (Or anyone else for that matter!)

Since this is January 1st there are quite a few places around the world where a ban on smoking in public places is taking effect.
(Hong Kong, Calgary, etc. etc.)

Now I have to start out by saying that I have NOT smoked for many years and consider it a foul, disgusting habit that is one of the greatest health risks to anyone! BUT!

My position is that the State has no business telling anyone where or when they can smoke. My wife of course does not agree with this and the more legislation in place the more she likes it!!!

I do believe that any establishment that permits smoking has a legal obligation to post warning signs that cigarette smoke is present, and then non-smokers can decide for themselves if they want to go in or not. To just arbitrarily say "no smoking" is an infringement on our rights!

I don't care if the government taxes the shit out of tobacco products to make up for the horrendous health care costs of smoking, (you know, like cancer, heart disease, emphysema, dry wrinkled skin for the ladies and a limp dick for the guys)) but don't tell them they CAN'T smoke, especially if they are Bingo players!

The same as "the powers that be," have NO right to tell you if you can do drugs, kill yourself, pray to Thor or Odin, live like a hermit or drink your money away on loose women and song.

As far as I'm concerned, the only thing a government has an obligation to do, is to use our tax money to provide the minimum requirements for living if we should become incapacitated or sick.

I am not a right-wing Conservative, (Republican) by any means, but this seems to be a perfect platform for them, so get in the game boys!

This is one of the reasons I posted a petition to have people stop "interfering" with others and mind their own business but as usual what the hell do I know, right?
